The Indus Valley is best described as the soul of Ladakh; reason being, the presence of magnanimous sight-seeing opportunities, high-end attractive valleys and tremendous ancient attractions and touring spots. But, to discover all these fascinations in a go, the perfect way is to explore them through the trekking routes.
This could be a win-win situation for the trekkers to tour across the valley and the nearby ranges; and to leverage the trekking excitements too. Since, its boundaries touch the parts of other countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan, China and India; so one can find the opportunity to explore different geographical attractions; where one side will be covered with snowy peaks, the other will be find with ardent greeneries, till then you discover the rocky and deserted areas too at any other directions; for completely different scenarios.
Indus Valley is strategically the most essential part of the Leh region as the area is being evolved through the main channels of the Indus River. Passing across this vast-inhabited wilderness at the heart of the Himalayas, the ranges of Indus Valley is also comprised of some of the least explored places of Ladakh. And trekking along the Indus Valley ranges will include the most charming villages of Sham region and will also be composed of undulating lands interspersed by high mountain passes like Phobe La (3700m) and the Charatse La (3800m).
Trekking along the Indus Valley ranges will comprise of many bewilderments like old nomadic routes along the hills of Likir and Temisgang of the ancient era, hiking across the ancient traditional Gompas like Likir, Ridzong (also spelt as Rhidzong), Temisgang, Thiksey and Alchi. The trekking trails also pass by numerous hidden villages where the locals have kept their traditions, values and customs, still so intact and unadulterated.
This moderate kind of trekking at the Indus Valleys is filled with many bewilderments and attractions which can best be enjoyed at the peak seasons of Mid-June to October so that the tourists/trekkers can catch the finest views of the natural landscapes blanketed with greenery all around.
Take the morning flight for Leh from Delhi. On arrival at Leh met our representative and transfer to pre booked hotel/Guest house for relax and acclimatisation. This is necessary for getting acclimatised at high altitude. Evening one can visit the color full market of Leh. Overnight in the hotel/guesthouse.
On this day you will go a sightseeing trip to some ancient monasteries in this area.
Shey Gompa is about 15 kms from Leh. It used to be the summer palace of the kings of Ladakh. There are lots of Stupas and Gompas built around the palace. Shey palace was built by Deldan Namgyal in the beginning of 17’Th century AD. Main attraction in Shey is the 12m Shakyamuni Buddha statue inside the Dresthang Gompa.
Thiksey Gompa, close to Shey is about 17 kms from Leh. The monastery is considered to be one of the most beautiful in Ladakh and belongs to the Gelukspa order.
Hemis, about 45 kms south of Leh it is one of the most famous and largest monastery in Ladakh. It belongs to the Drukpa order and was founded in the early 17’Th century. The setting is perfect with the monastery cradled in a lovely valley, surrounded by streams and fronted by long Mani walls. Overnight stay at the guest house.
In the morning meet our guide & drive; after introduction drive towards Likir. The Gompa of Likir was established around the 15th century and early in its history. At Likir Gompa the Lama use yellow - hat on their head. There are total house of 125 Lamas. Overnight stay at Likir in camp.
The route goes through two low passes, the Phobe La (3700m) and the Charatse La (3800m), opening to beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. Overnight stay in tent.
En route, visit of the Ridzong monastery, which is set in stunning surroundings and hidden amongst the hills. After a tiny pass, we descend towards Hemis Shukpachan. Overnight stay in tent.
This part of the trail has been carved out from the ochre rocks into a balcony. We climb towards two passes at 4000m and arrive at Ang. Then on to Temisgang, ancient capital of the Sham Kingdom, and its monastery. Overnight stay in tent.
Morning visit of the Lamayuru and Alchi monasteries & later after breakfast drive back to Leh. Overnight stay in hotel.
Morning transfer to the Airport to catch the flight for Delhi.
